Meditation

“It is a relaxed state where calm breathing takes place, followed by calmness throughout the entire body. One may notice subtle sensations. In other words it feels like arriving at a peaceful and discovery state.

What we are sensing is a feeling of being at home in your body. Having no thoughts is not what we are trying to achieve. Instead have conscious awareness of the thoughts, and choose how and what to pay attention to.

Start by paying attention to your breath. Secondly, practice paying attention to how your body is feeling from head to toe.” -Manny

” It can be as long as you are willing. In the beginning, see how long you are able to hold your focus. Most people start between 2-5 minutes a day. After constant practice you will find that you can enjoy meditation for a longer time. Experienced meditators can sit between 30 minutes to 1 hour and for some, even longer.” – Manny

“The goal is to minimize distraction, and maximize our attention to our body. One can observe feelings of tension versus relaxation.” – Manny

” Sit comfortably at a place where there are no distractions. Start with guided meditations if you are new to the practice. Increase your awareness by attentively, and thoroughly scanning your body from head to toe. Identify any sensations that you feel. Take deep, and relaxed belly breaths.” – Manny

“Results vary from person to person. It is dependent on the frequency, duration, and quality of the meditation practice. Some may feel instant peace of mind. For some, the long term benefits of meditation can take a while to develop. Such benefits include heightened awareness, increased patience, regulated mood, greater energy management, improved problem solving skills, and heightened connection between mind and body.” – Manny

“The basic position is to sit comfortably on a chair with feet on the ground, or your legs crossed while seated on the floor, and keep your back straight. Rest your palms facing up on your knees or thighs. Later on there are mudras, or various hand positions that can be explored. “ – Manny

“You are on the right track when you feel centered, and at home in your body. The less agitation, rigidness, and the more calmness, and subtle body sensations you feel the better. It means you are beginning to practice awareness, which is the first stage of meditation. “ – Manny
